We got the chance to catch up with our 2014 Band of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year winners Alesana. The band just recently finished up their tour in support of their latest album, Confessions, which successfully closed out their Annabel trilogy. Check out what all vocalist Shawn Milke had to say when he chatted with BareBones Ent!

BS: Its been around a year since we talked last, how have you guys been?
SM:
Very busy but great! It is very exciting to have wrapped up the trilogy and to have gotten to tour again.

BS: You recently released your new album, Confessions. How have fans reacted to it?
SM:
The reaction has been better than I could have ever expected. Our core fans have really latched onto Annabel and her adventures which has made telling her story an absolute pleasure. Musically, we took some chances on Confessions and I think our fans respect what we have done. We are definitely not the kind of band to write the same record over and over again.

BS: Have any of the songs really taken off with fans? Why do you think fans have connected to that one?
SM:
Thus far there has been a lot of attachment to “Comedy of Errors” and “The Puppeteer” which excited me a great deal because those are the most abstract and progressive songs on the record. It is definitely the direction I am leaning towards for future Alesana records.

BS: Confessions, is the conclusion of the Annabel trilogy. Looking back how do you feel the trilogy turned out?
SM:
I am thrilled with how it turned out. The story is a twisted journey and the three albums differ from each other in just the right ways. Each record, musically, sits perfectly alongside the prose in terms of vibe and energy. I’m very proud of our trilogy.

BS: What do you feel are the highlights from the trilogy?
SM:
Storyline-wise, I love when we reveal big plot twists. Musically, it is the dynamic journey as you listen through all three albums. It is a sonic journey that leads you through a maze of deception and misdirection.

BS: Last year you won our 2014 Band of the Year! What does it mean to you to have had so many come out and vote for you?
SM:
It is very humbling. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the army of Alesana fans are the best in the world.

BS: Do you think you can repeat this year, and Confessions take Album of the Year?
SM:
I certainly hope so. Confessions is my proudest achievement in music to date.

BS: We caught you guys on the last night of the Confessions Tour in Dallas. How did the tour go for you?
SM:
It was really great. It is so cool to see how many fans have stuck with us for the long haul. We met so many people on this tour who were seeing us for the first time even though they have been listening to us for years. That is such a fulfilling feeling.

BS: What is the next chance for fans to see you in their city?
SM:
We will be hitting the road again in the fall after our tour in the UK, Europe, and Russia.

BS: Anything else you would like to add?
SM:
